Balanced Health Brings Balanced Fertility
I am going to get personal and deep right away... let's be real, that is who I am and why I found myself pursuing this path.....
The area of fertility care and women's health are near and dear to my heart, and my life. I myself have been a fertility patient for many years. I have experienced the highs and lows that often come on the journey to parenthood. My husband and I have lost more pregnancies than I can count (seriously I stopped keeping track). I eventually gave birth six weeks prematurely to our beautiful daughter, who happens to be an amazing, smart, funny, loving, special needs supergirl. She spent a month in the NICU before we brought her home and began the process of learning how to care for her, and navigate a system and world I never thought I would be part of. It took the dedication of some very incredible lactation nurses to ensure that I was able to breastfeed my little girl, we successfully breastfed until she was 15 months old. I give them credit to this day for my daughters health and accomplishments. I truly believe breastmilk is medicine for the body and brain. And I know it is cliche to say, but both my husband and I are thankful everyday that she is who she is. She teaches us more about love and the world that I feel like I can ever teach her. We continued on our fertility journey after her first birthday with two cycles of IVF. I have read every book, researched, and dove down every rabbit hole on the internet in search of anything I could learn that would increase our odds of success. It is a daunting process and there is so much information to sort though. Even as a medical professional with experience in the field. I want to be able to help guide others on this journey and reduce the stress of sorting through the information alone.
So that's my personal story, if you are interested in knowing more don't hesitate to ask, I really am an open book.
Now onto my professional story.
I am a RN. I completed a bachelors degree in nursing at Northern Arizona University. I have been a nurse for 12 years. I started my career working on a Women's Care Unit dedicated to oncology care, surgical care, and high risk pregnancies. I have spent the last 5 years working as a postpartum nurse on a very busy high acuity floor. Teaching new mom's and dad's is my favorite part of the job. Helping a mother latch her baby has to be one of greatest joys in my day. I have always had a passion for health and wellness, and prior to my nursing degree I completed a degree in public health community health education at The University of Arizona. Prevention of disease was the focus. Unfortunately, our medical system doesn't currently provide much focus on prevention. We operate in an acute care world, meaning we only address actively occurring issues. Over the years I have worked with many women who found themselves with medical complications that could have been prevented with the proper diet and lifestyle choices. It is so much easier to stay healthy than to reverse a lifetime of damage.
I believe in a life of balance. Balance in work and play, balance in activity and rest, balance in bodies and minds. That is my mission, to help others create a life of balance. To give back the information that I have obtained through my personal experience and my professional ones, and lighten the load of doing it alone.
